Entry formalities for tourists in Andaman and Nicobar Islands

Before planning trips to the Andaman and Nicobar Islands for your clients, it is essential to understand the entry formalities. Depending on whether your clients are Indian or foreign nationals, different permits and documentation may be needed. Being aware of these requirements in advance helps you advise your clients accurately, avoid last-minute issues, and deliver a smooth, hassle-free journey while exploring the islands

Welcome to the Andaman & Nicobar Islands

The Andaman and Nicobar Islands are a stunning cluster of tropical islands known for their pristine beaches, vibrant marine life, and rich cultural heritage. To preserve the fragile ecosystem, protect indigenous communities, and ensure the safety and comfort of all visitors, certain entry regulations are in place. Understanding these formalities before your journey helps you plan better, avoid last-minute hassles, and enjoy a smooth and memorable visit.


For Foreign Nationals

  • Foreign nationals require a valid permit to enter and stay in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
  • Initial stay is allowed for 30 days, which can be extended by an additional 15 days with permission from the concerned authorities.
Permits can be obtained from:
  • Indian Missions overseas
  • Foreigner’s Registration Offices in Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, and Kolkata
  • On arrival at Port Blair airport or seaport
  • Travelers must carry a valid passport, visa, and return/onward ticket during the journey.

For Indian Nationals

  • Indian citizens do not require a general permit to visit the Andaman Islands.
  • Special permits are required to visit the Nicobar Islands and certain tribal areas due to security and ecological reasons. These permits are issued only in exceptional cases.
