Wandoor Beach in Andaman Islands

Wandoor beach is near the southern tip of South Andaman and is a nice place to relax, but it is more known as the gateway to the Mahatma Gandhi Marine National Park.

From Mahatma Gandhi Marine National Park you will get boats to Jolly Buoy. Boats from Jolly Buoy would return by 3 pm and then you can watch the sunset at Wandoor beach and return to Port Blair by bus. Snorkeling is possible at some good sites near Wandoor. People who do not wish to swim can hire glass-bottomed boats to view the coral-reefs.

Wandoor is a small village near the southern tip of South Andaman. It has some beaches and a couple of accommodation options and is a nice place to relax, but it is more known as the gateway to the Mahatma Gandhi Marine National Park.

From Mahatma Gandhi Marine National Park you will get boats to Jolly Buoy (Boat charges Rs 750/- per person both ways, Rs 50/- for forest permit to Jolly Buoy and Rs 25/- for camera).At Jolly Buoy you will get to see corals (red, blue, sponge corals etc.). Also you will be able to see life within these corals (particularly zebra fish). There is another island called Red Skin Island. Both Jolly Buoy and Red Skin remain open for tourists for 6 months alternately. Tourists Wandoor + Jolly Buoy/Red Skin are a day trip. Night stay not required. Boats from Jolly Buoy would return by 3 pm and then you can watch the sunset at Wandoor beach and return to Port Blair by bus. Jolly Buoy Island

Jolly Buoy Island is within 30 km reach from Wandoor Beach. This island is a secluded paradise nestled with dense tropical forest and white sandy shore. It is a beautiful place to visit and to indulge in adventure sports. However, keep in mind it is a beautiful getaway island and not a commercial zone, therefore, one might face difficulty in finding a place to change clothes. Also, note that the island is a no-plastic zone.

Mahatma Gandhi Marine National Park

Located very close to Wandoor Beach, it is often flocked with tourists from around the world. It has 15 islands that are locked with beautiful coral reefs and mangroves. The park was established in 1983 with the idea to protect marine life. Some of the islands are not open to visitors. Here, snorkeling will provide you with surreal vistas. So, those who are traveling to Wandoor should definitely spend some time in Mahatma Gandhi Marine National Park.

Viper Island

If you wish to travel to a place that is surrounded by the right amount of historic and heavenly, then add this one to your list. It will take you around 40 minutes to reach this place from Wandoor Beach. One can also avail of a ferry ride from Port Blair. In the British era, it had a jail that you can take a tour of during your visit. It is recommended to visit the place during the months of November and February. During this time, the island experiences lesser rains and moderate temperatures, hence, making it ideal for traveling.
